Access LCase Function

Last updated: August 26, 2026.

The LCase function converts letters in a string to lowercase.

Syntax

LCase(string)
ArgumentDescription
stringText expression to convert

Examples

LCase("WebCheatSheet") ' webcheatsheet
NormalizedEmail: LCase(Trim([Email]))
SafeValue: LCase(Nz([Code], ""))

LCase returns Null for Null input and follows locale casing rules. Do not use case conversion alone as a complete identity-normalization strategy.

See Microsoft’s Access function reference for related expression functions.
